For those of us who work at home, it can be really easy to just roll out of bed and onto the computer. Hours upon hours fly by as we are ‘working’ but you still do not feel like you’ve accomplished much. Especially while working from home, life and business can often have friction. I’ve been there!
Over the years, what I’ve experienced as the most powerful way to increase my productivity while working at home is creating a practice. A practice that will help you reach goals faster, cut down ‘work’ time, increase your personal health, and create more space to enjoy life.
Here is an inside look to the practices I live and recommend to my clients working at home. These are guidelines, feel free to improvise. Create your own practice that makes you incredibly productive and flow!
Tip #1 – Have a healthy morning routine
In the morning, it’s time to get your health in check for a productive day ahead. My morning practice includes deep breathing (usually 10 minutes), writing in my Manifest Journal the daily tasks ahead and the support I’ve love to call-in from the Divine, stretch, eat fresh fruit, and focusing on the day’s intent. Depending on my day – I’ll do this for an hour, two hours, or just 10 minutes. It’s really about creating a practice and finding your flow for the day, as each day is not the same.
Tip #2 – Wear clothes + accessories that inspire you
Wear bracelets, rings, scarfs, and articles of clothing that keeps you grounded and creatively inspired. Every day I rock my ‘manifest’ necklace. On days when I want a boost, I wear my ‘decisive’ lipgloss from Lush. Even when I am working behind the computer at home and no one sees what I am wearing, I still wear it for me : )
Tip #3 - Organize + clear your space
Sage is my favorite way to clear the work space before, during, and after completing a project. Also when my energy is off or want to re-charge my creativity, I sage. You find sage for $3 and it’s one of the best tools! Also, each night before you go to sleep make sure your work space is organized for the next day. It will help you start on the right flow in the morning. Your future self will thank you.
Tip #4 – Create healthy structures in your environment
When it’s work time, it’s time to work. Structure in your environment is key. Like many urban dwellers, my bedroom is also my work space. I keep the door closed when I am working to let everyone in my house know that I need my focused time. It’s up to you to create the boundaries.
Tip #5 – Eat healthy foods to fuel your productivity
I’m passionate about the connection of organic, local, plant-based foods and sustainable success. Having these healthy foods fuel your work day will help increase your energy, focus, and yes – productivity. Also cutting down on sick days. During a day work day, I keep it simple. Organic brown rice or quinoa in the rice cooker with mixed veggies, topped with avocado when it’s done. It’s perfection and is the easiest one-bowl meal to create!
Tip #6 – Focus
As I mentioned earlier, it’s so incredibly easy to get distracted in our modern world and especially when working from home. I love my focus oils, crystals, meditation, and manifestation journal writing to help me get in-tuned with my main intent of the day. This will also help filter out a lot of time wasters because you are focused on what you need to accomplish that day. Without much work, your intuition will start filtering out all that doesn’t serve you. We can still achieve more than one task for the day but having a core intent will create a stronger base and allows for more breath in your work.
Tip #7 – Log on + log off
As I practice with my clients, having a strong online presence is vital for a healthy brand. Why? We now live online. Even us embracing a conscious lifestyle, we live online. For my clients who are managing their own social media, I teach them to post for the day, interact, chat, play, and then log OFF. It’s a time waster waiting to happen to have Facebook for example logged in all day. Within minutes, you’ll be looking at people who you were in 8th grade English class with and what they ate on vacation. Log on and log off. See how much more productive you become!
Tip # 8 – Have your Manifest Journal near by
A Manifest Journal helps you organize, prioritize, and keep track of your progress of your daily life, working towards your BIG vision and goals. On the journey of creating my dream business and lifestyle, I developed a practice that helped me organize, priorities, and strategize my visions by sparking my manifestation skills. I call this practice, Manifest Journaling. It’s been a life-changing practice. While I am working, I always have my Manifest Journal near by to write ideas that come to mind, remind myself of the tasks for the day, and write random notes of encouragement to myself. My Manifest Journal is close by 24/7.
Cheers to your productivity!
